The Hardest Part of Beekeeping?
It Comes Later.
Most beginners don’t fail on day one. You struggle months later.
You have to start guessing when…
- The hive doesn’t look like the pictures
- The season shifts and timing suddenly matters
- Something feels off, but you can’t tell if it’s normal
- Online advice sends you in ten different directions
That’s when confidence starts to slip. And guessing is how small problems turn into real losses.
Those are the moments this mentorship is built for.
Learn Exactly What to Do As the Year Unfolds
The Beekeeping Mentorship Program is a month-by-month continuation of the one-day Beekeeping Management Class.
sessions monthly
Each month, you join us in person for a half-day session focused on what your bees actually need right now.
You will see:
- What is happening inside hives this month
- Which actions matter and which ones don’t
- How to handle common seasonal challenges before they escalate
- What to prepare for next, so you are never reacting late
Have specific questions outside of training sessions? As a mentee, you can call, text, or email the masters at Oakley Beekeeping anytime with your questions.
- “How worried should I be about this?”
- “Does this look like a problem starting or just normal variation?”
- “Is this something I should fix now or leave alone?”
- “I might have smoked them too much. Is that a problem?”
Don’t go through any beekeeping challenge alone ever again.
Become a confident beekeeper who understands their hives through every season of the year
Anyone can follow a checklist. But confident beekeepers understand what they are seeing and why they are acting. Over the period of a year, the mentorship equips you to:
- Recognize what is normal inside a hive
- Spot problems early instead of reacting in panic
- Make calm decisions instead of second-guessing
- Open a hive knowing what you are looking at
Built on Decades of Texas Beekeeping Experience
Modern beekeeping is full of conflicting advice and unnecessary complexity.
Over decades of working with bees in Texas, we have learned to let the bees tell us what they need and to keep management simple, seasonal, and sustainable. The mentorship is where we share the principles we actually use in our own apiaries. There is always more to learn about bees. The difference is learning with guidance.

FAQs
Is this mentorship only for beginners?
This program is designed for people in their first year of beekeeping or for beekeepers who feel like they missed something along the way and are not having the success they expected. Signup for our initial one-day beekeeping class first, in order to gain an overview of our year-long mentorship process. Many participants are brand new. Others have some experience but want steady guidance through the seasons. The common thread is wanting to stop guessing and start feeling confident.
How is this different from the one-day class?
The one-day class gives you a solid foundation. The mentorship is where that foundation turns into real-world confidence.
Beekeeping questions rarely show up all at once. They show up month by month, as seasons change and conditions shift. The mentorship walks with you through those moments so you know what to do when it actually matters.
When are the monthly training sessions?
Sessions are held from 9am to 12pm one Saturday per month. View the monthly training schedule here.
What if something comes up between sessions?
This is exactly what the mentorship is for.
Students in the mentorship can contact us directly by text, phone, or email when questions come up.
Do I need to attend every monthly session?
The more consistently you attend, the more value you will get. Each session builds on seasonal timing and real conditions. If you miss a session, you still have access to support and guidance, but the program works best when you follow along month by month.
Can two people enroll together?
What if I already feel behind or unsure?
That is exactly when mentorship matters most.
Most beekeepers do not struggle on day one. They struggle later, when timing matters and questions start piling up. This program is designed to meet you where you are and help you move forward with clarity.
